WORLD MUSIC DAY 2021
June 21st every year is celebrated as World Music Day,
The World Music Day is also referred to as Fete de la musique.
Fete de la Musique, is an annual celebration founded by France’s Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, alongside a French composer, music journalist, and festival organiser, Maurice Fleure, in Paris in 1982, to honour amateur and professional musicians, while encouraging them to showcase their work.
This year’s theme is ‘Music at the intersections’.
Music is not only a fantastic creative outlet, but it can also have many health benefits. When you listen to a particular song, it can bring back a happy memory or make you feel energised.
Music has more benefits than one can comprehend. This day is dedicated to music in all forms and the impact it has on the world.
On this day, the National Broadcasting Commission, again, emphasises on the need for Broadcasters to adhere strictly to sections of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code that deals with music and musical contents.
Section 3.18.2.2 states that for the purpose of free-to-air terrestrial broadcast;
a. Nigerian music constitutes 80 percent of all music Content;
b. For purposes of royalties, it maintains an accurate log of every music it transmits and retain same for at least three months;
c. It exhibits responsibility, good taste and decency in the choice of music, which in any case, shall not contain lewd, profane, indecent or vulgar expressions;
d. Professionalism and good judgment are employed in the use of music as a bridge.
The Commission on musical videos, urges broadcasters to note that obscene, indecent, vulgar language, lewd and profane expression, presentation or representation is not allowed.
Music is the great unifier, a bridge builder, an incredible force which can mold or destroy the minds of the youth.
Therefore, Broadcasters must be cautious in their selections of what musical content should be aired. The prefered version is the radio version, while the club version is classified as ‘Not to Be Broadcast (NTBB).
Enjoy the rhythm!!
Happy World Music Day!!!
