Osun2022: I’m Not Aware Of PDP Victory, Oyetola’s Loss – APC National Chairman, Adamu

Osun: I’m Not Aware Of PDP Victory, Oyetola’s Loss – Adamu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on Sunday disclosed that he was unaware a winner has emerged in the aftermath of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

Adamu’s statement is coming in the wake of the party’s candidate, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s loss to the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke.

Oyetola had polled 375,027 votes and won in 13 local government areas of the state to come second behind Adeleke in the election.

When asked to make comment after the election, the governor said the leadership of the APC in the state will respond to the result of Saturday’s governorship poll after studying it.

He also called on his supporters to remain calm, and go about their respective businesses without fomenting trouble or resulting to violence.

His loss in Saturday’s poll has, however, come to the APC national chair as a surprise.

Adamu, who appeared on Arise TV programme on Sunday, denied having knowledge of the winner of the Osun governorship election.

He told the presenter, “With due respect, my dear brother, I am just really hearing this from you. I have not formally heard the announcement from INEC, which is the independent commission responsible for election in Nigeria.

“I have not heard from them yet. Once I hear formally from INEC, I can be in a position to answer this particular question.”

When reminded that the results and the breakdown of the ballots from the 30 local government areas were all over the pages of major newspapers across the country, Adamu remained adamant.

“Between me and you, I have not formally heard from INEC and I have not read the papers you are talking about. I do read some papers on my table before I have my breakfast but I haven’t done that today yet,” he said.

When prodded further on whether the party will accept defeat if he finally gets to see the result and breakdown of voting pattern, the APC chair stuck to his gun.

#OsunElection2022: APC Warns PDP Not To Set Osun On Fire With Fake Results

APC Warns PDP Not To Set Osun On Fire With Fake Results

The Director General of the Campaign Council of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s re-election, Senator Ajibola Basiru has described as irresponsible the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that it has won the election, the result of which is being collated.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday evening, he noted that the claim by the PDP was capable of setting Osun on fire.

He, therefore, warned the PDP to desist from making a frivolous and unsubstantiated claim about an election, which, as we speak, voting is still going on in some areas.

Going by the result so far declared, there was no way PDP could lay claim to any victory. This is more so that in one of the Local Governments where the PDP candidate hails voting is still going on as we speak.

“Therefore, the PDP’s claim is tantamount to standing logic on its head. We appeal to our supporters and sympathisers in Osun and across the country to remain calm in the face of this obvious provocation.

The suspect, who reportedly gave his name as Ezekiel, was arrested by the Nigerian police in the Ifofin area of Ilesha in Osun State.

Security operatives deployed to monitor the ongoing governorship election in Osun State have arrested a suspected hoodlum with charms.
The suspect, who reportedly gave his name as Ezekiel, was arrested by the Nigerian police in the Ifofin area of Ilesha in Osun State.

According to reports, the suspect said he resided in Lagos and had to come to Ilesha to work.
Meanwhile, some people in the area have faulted the police, querying when it had become an offence to wear charms.
Across Osun State today, up to 1,955,657 registered voters are expected to exercise their franchise across the 3,763 polling units to elect a new governor for the state in a keen contest.

Soldiers, policemen and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been sighted in strategic locations around the state capital and border towns.
The election, which will be contested by 15 political parties, is expected to be a straight duel between the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Other candidates in the race are the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf of the Labour Party, Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Akin Ogunbiyi of Accord Party.
More voters are expected to participate in the election than the 2018 poll when 767,444 electorates out of the 1,668,524 registered voters exercised their franchise.

🔴 Court Declines Sacking Oyetola As Osun APC’s Candidate

Court Declines Sacking Oyetola As Osun APC’s Candidate

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by former Secretary to the Osun State Government, Moshood Adeoti, seeking to void the nomination of Governor Gboyega Oyetola as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Saturday’s governorship election.

Adeoti had claimed that Oyetola violated the provision of Article 31 (3) of the APC construction by allegedly not resigning his membership of the Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) 30 days before the party’s primary from which Oyetola emerged as the candidate of the APC.

In a judgment on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo held among others, that the suit was an abuse of court process because it disclosed no cause of action.

Justice Ekwo noted that the subject matter of the suit fall outside the scope of Section 285(14) of the Constitution and Section 87(9) of Electoral Act and therefore the case did not qualify as pre-election matter.

Justice Ekwo held that the suit falls within the internal affairs of the party on which the court could not intervene.
