Lumumba’s Tooth Returned to Family Decades After killing by Belgium.

Lumumba’s tooth returned to family decades after killing by Belgium.

A tooth believed to have been ripped from a man who once carried a nation’s hopes of freedom and democracy is finally going home.

The symbolic handover of Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba’s remains is meant to soothe a family’s and a country’s historic pain, but it is also reviving memories of European colonialism and America’s covert war to contain communism.

The return of what is widely believed to be Lumumba’s tooth means his family can finally have a “resting place where they can pray for their father,” said Brussels lawyer Christophe Marchand, who represents two of Lumumba’s five children, Francois and Roland. Without the remains, they can’t fully mourn, he said.

A Belgian official handed a blue box containing the tooth to members of his family at an official ceremony at Egmont Palace in the Belgian capital on Monday.

Jungle Justice: Ogun Police Command Summons Portable

Threat to Life : Ogun Police Command Summons Portable

The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to a video clip circulating on social media where a famous hip-hop musician Habeeb Okikiola a.k.a Portable, the Zazu crooner was seen organising some youths to beat up a young man and inflict bodily injury on him.

The incident was said to have taken place somewhere within Ogun State about two days ago. Such unruly and violent behaviour is not only barbaric but unbecoming of somebody who is supposed to be a role model for the youths and should not be tolerated.”

The police insist that if Portable’s unruly behaviour is not checked, the same act will send wrong signals to the youths.
Given this, the Command is using this medium to advise Okikiola Habeeb, a.k.a Portable, to report himself at the nearest police station in Ogun State, failure of which his arrest will be ordered.

The flagrant display of impunity by portable in the viral video is condemnable, and if not checked, it will send a wrong signal to the youths looking up to him as a role model.

Jungle justice has no place in our laws, and whoever embarked on it must be made to feel the weight of the law, no matter the status of such a person.

LASODA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY

LASODA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY

The General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mr. Oluwadamilare Dairo, has urged people with Albinism to take all necessary steps towards ensuring their skins are adequately protected to avoid the many health problems peculiar to their skin type.

He gave the advice in his address at the event organised by the Office, in collaboration with the Lagos Albinism Awareness Society, to mark the International Albinism Awareness Day, held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium Alausa, Secretariat, Ikeja, over the weekend.

He explained that the event tagged: “United in Making our Voices Heard”, which commenced with an advocacy walk, is aimed at dispelling the many erroneous beliefs and myths attached to the condition that has resulted in the discrimination against people with Albinism.

Dairo stated that the group of people, apart from the health issues that could arise from their skin condition, also face multiple forms of discrimination and sometimes attacks due to the superstitious beliefs that have continued to foster their marginalisation and social exclusion in the society.

His words: “We must educate the people on the need to let go of archaic beliefs that have continued to harm this group of people in the society. As we all know, the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has, from inception, focused on people-oriented policies and programmes where no one is left behind”.

“This gathering is an avenue to again sensitise the people on the need to join the government towards ensuring that the rights of everyone are protected by ending the superstitious beliefs. I, therefore, urge the people with albinism to continue to live their best life while maintaining good skin care practices”, he added.

The Guest Lecturers at the event, Prof. Olayinka Olasode of the Department of Dermatology and Venerology, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and Dr. Folakemi Cole-Adeife, a Consultant Physician and Dermatologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), stressed the importance of regular check-up for people with albinism and the use of sunscreens as well as sunglasses to protect themselves from the sun.

According to the guest lecturers, Albinism is a result of a lack of melanin in the skin, hair and eyes, leaving vital parts of the body vulnerable to all sorts of skin diseases including skin cancer and loss of vision.

Advising sufferers to report all cases of lesions on the skin as early detection helps, the consensus was that it is extremely important that albinos avoid the sun as much as possible but cover themselves up properly if they must go out in the sun.

Other dignitaries present at the event include the SSA on Persons Living with Disability, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde Lawal; the President, Lagos Albinism Awareness Society, Mrs. Josephine Omolola, and the Director of Medical Aids, LASODA, Mrs. Eniola Abokhai, among others.

2023: ‘Placeholder’ Has No Place In Our Constitution – INEC

The concept of “placeholder” for vice-presidential candidates has no place in the constitution of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This is according to INEC’s Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye.

Okoye said, “The constitution makes it very clear that you cannot run alone as a presidential candidate and must nominate an associate to run with you for that position, and as far as INEC is concerned, the presidential candidates have submitted their associates to run with them in the presidential election.

“As far as we are concerned, there’s no form submitted by the presidential candidate where they said ‘we’re submitting this person’s name as a place or space holder.

“The issue of space or place holder is a unique Nigerian invention that has no place in our constitutional and legal framework.

“Political parties’ candidates have submitted names of associates to run with them, and that is the position of the law as at today and nothing has changed. For there to be a substitution of a candidate, the vice-presidential candidate must write to INEC, with a sworn affidavit stating that he is withdrawing from the race within the time frame provided by the law. That’s the only way there can be a substitution of candidates.”

Last week, PDP and Labour Party submitted their forms with ‘placeholder’.

70% Of Nigerian Politicians Are Lunatics – Peter Obi

70% Of Nigerian Politicians Are Lunatics – Peter Obi

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said most of the politicians in the corridors of power have no reason to be there, describing politics in Nigeria as a case where lunatics have taken over the asylum.

He said this Sunday at the Men of Valour conference with the theme: “Navigating the corridors of power, the church, and the politics” organised by the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC), Abuja.

The former governor of Anambra State, who described 70 percent of politicians in Nigeria as “lunatics”, said only a lunatic in government would steal N80 billion of the citizens money for personal use.

He said Nigeria would continue to suffer unless these “lunatics” were flushed out and replaced with competent people at the next elections.
