A COURT in Abuja has sentenced a 67-year-old farmer, Samson Aku, to prison for maiming and killing a herders’ cows which strayed into his farm.
The Presiding Officer, Mr Suleiman Mohammed, sentenced Aku after finding the convict guilty of the charges filed against him. The act, according to the judge, is not justifiable.
“It is evident that the defendant took laws into his hands, which shouldn’t be, and has failed to convince the court in his defence the reason for his actions.
“Therefore, this court, having found you guilty of the charges brought against you, hereby sentences you to three months in a correctional facility, while in consideration of your age,” he said.
Mohammed, however gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N25,000.
The convict, a resident of Friendship Street, SCC road in Bwari, had been arraigned and charged for causing mischief by killing or maiming an animal.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Police Prosecutor, Mrs Idowu Ojo, told the court that on June 6, one Dauda Usman, a Fulani herdsman and resident of Zuma area of Bwari, reported the matter at the Bwari police station.
Ojo explained that on June 5, while the complainant’s cows were grazing in the bush behind Kogo II village in the district, they mistakenly entered and ate part of the crops on the defendant’s farm.
The prosecutor said the defendant, however, angrily used a machete to maim six cows, killing four in the process, all valued at N360,000.
She explained that the two other cows were quickly slaughtered by the herder to save himself of total loss, after noticing that the injuries inflicted on the animals were killing them.
Ojo said that during investigation, the defendant confessed to committing the crime. She said that the offence contravened Section 329 of the Penal Code.

Nigerian Man Hacks US Govt. Account, Gives Family And Friends Permanent Citizenship
A Nigerian man, Abaeze Atuche, has hacked the account of the United States of America government and gave all members of his family and 15 of his friends’ permanent American citizenship,
The US had been cracking down on cyber scammers recently, over 80 Nigerians had been arrested in the USA for internet fraud and other online crimes during the fourth quarter of 2019.
After the arrests, more charges were pressed on some of the suspects and one of them is not just a scammer. Abaeze Atuche is a hacker and he had done something that no hacker had ever attempted to do before.
Atuche hacked the US government and gave all members of his family and 15 of his friends’ permanent American citizenship. As we speak the American government is in a process of deporting all 33 people who got their citizenship as a result of Atuche’s hack.
No details as to how he pulled it off yet but insiders say his skills are unbelievable. “The US government online network is impregnable but this guy proved it otherwise. If he was not arrested I don’t think there was ever going to be an investigation on how his family members got their citizenship”.
Abaeze Atuche is only 29 and the hacking started five years ago when he was only 24-years-old. He entered the US using a fake American passport in 2013 and never left. By 2016 his big family and 15 of his Nigerian friends were permanent US citizens.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has formally dragged the Nigeria Police Force to the Federal High Court over an alleged invasion of his house and killing of four occupants.
Ejiofor in the legal action instituted on his behalf by Maxwell Okpara, is asking the court for an order to compel police to pay him the sum of N2 billion as compensatory and damages for the burning of his house and shooting of his aged mother by the police at his Oraifite hometown in Anambra State on December 2.
Other defendants in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/135/19 and sited by DAILY POST included, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Area Commander, Divisional Police (DPO) in Anambra State, the Nigerian Army, Chief of Army Staff, Federal Republic of Nigeria and Attorney General of the Federation.
Plaintiff, who claimed to have been called to bar over 17 years ago, is asking the court to restrain the respondents, their agents, and privies from further harassing, intimidating, threatening his life and destroying his house and other properties.
He further applied for an order of the court stopping the respondents from threatening him with arrest and torture and to compel them to retract the public notice made on December 3, which declared him wanted and to also tender an apology to him in five major newspapers and any other form of reparation.
In a -37 paragraph affidavit in support of his fundamental rights enforcement suit, the plaintiff claimed that he was in his Oraifite hometown in Anambra State between November 25 and December 1, for the burial of his late brother, Reverend Louis Ejiofor.
He said further that on December 2, his house was still filled with relatives, friends, and well-wishers, helping him to evacuate tents, chairs and other materials used for the burial ceremony when a group of 16 policemen allegedly invaded his house.
In the affidavit deposed to by his immediate elder brother, Evangelist Emeka Ejiofor on his behalf, the plaintiff averred that the police claimed to be looking for suspects involved in an alleged communal clash and that he spoke on phone with the Area Commander promising that he would make himself available on the same day by 11 am.
He further averred that by 10.15 am, the same police squad led by the Area Commander, came ahead of the appointed time and violently invaded his ancestral home with sporadic shooting at every living object.
In the confusion that ensued, the plaintiff said that four young men were instantly shot dead while his aged mother sustained gunshot injury from the trigger, happy officers.
Ejiofor stated that the dead bodies were evacuated from his house to a market place and burnt there.
The plaintiff further averred that on December 3, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State caused a public notice through television stations and other news media that he had been declared wanted without been given adequate time and opportunity to respond to any allegation against him if any.
He, therefore, urged the court to declare the invasion of his house and subsequent shootings and killing of unarmed civilians as barbaric, wicked, illegal, oppressive and a gross violation of his rights to life, dignity of human person, personal liberty, fair hearing and right to private and family life as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.
Ejiofor further sought court’s declaration that the setting ablaze of all buildings and properties in his Oraifite ancestral home in Ekwusigo Local Government of Anambra State by the police is illegal, barbaric, oppressive, unlawful and amounted to a gross violation of his rights to property as guaranteed by the constitution.
Ejiofor also wants the court to declare that the December 3 public notice by the police declaring him as a wanted person without given in the opportunity to respond to any allegation against him if any, is illegal, unconstitutional, unreasonable, null and void as the action violates his right to fair hearing as guaranteed by law.
Meanwhile, no date has yet been fixed for the hearing of the suit.

Biafra: We’ve paid supreme price with our parents –Nnamdi Kanu’s family
Family of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, said with the death of its patriarch, Eze Isaac Okwu Kanu, it had paid the supreme price for the Biafra struggle.
Afaraukwu Eze-in-council comprising the three communities in Afaraukwu in Umuahia North Local Government of Abia State had, at the weekend, formally announced the death of the traditional ruler who was believed to have died in early November.
Speaking with Daily Sun at Afaraukwu, the spokesman of the family, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, said nothing was as painful as the death of their parents, adding that it came as shock to them, but assured they were doing everything humanly possible to absorb the shock.
He said: “Nothing is as painful as what we’ve been through with regard to my parent’s death. It came to us as shock and a very big one for that matter. But we are doing everything we can humanly possible to absorb that shock.
“We fully understand that it’s what everyone has to go through directly or indirectly, but this is a very challenging and difficult time.
“However, in everything, we give God praise. He said when good happens, we should praise Him so as when evil happens. It hasn’t been easy. But we are doing all we can to make sure that what we believe in is achieved.”
Kanu said they would miss their parents in so many ways, including their parental advice, food and even their disagreements to agree on issues, which he said, were always moments of joy instead of bitterness for the family.
He said: “We are going to miss everything about them, there is the parental advice; the way they make us laugh all the time. You need to see my mother and my father disagree with each other.
“When you see them sit down and iron out their differences, of course, it makes us laugh. They agree in everything, sometimes they disagree as well.
What you may not want to say about any situation, my mother will stand bold to say it without giving a damn to whatever happens, that’s who she is. She is a fearless woman, very fearless, indeed”.
Kanu, who equally added that they would miss their parent’s support for Biafra, stressed that they were pillars to the struggle. However, he stated that wherever they may be today, their wish would be for them to see Biafra realised.
He stressed that they, their children and Biafrans alike, know the dream was alive and were doing whatever they could to achieve it without minding whatever opposition on the way.
He reiterated that his parents died as a result of the trauma of invasion of their home in 2017 by the military under the guise of “Operation Python Dance,” but was not categorical on whether the family would take any legal action against the military or Federal Government.
“I may not be in a position to say that (we can take action against government) until we all sit down together and then look at it from a different angle as well.
“But I’m making it clear that the reason my parents died was as a result of the ‘Operation Python Dance’ of 2017; they lived with the trauma until the day they passed on,” Kanu said.
