Convener of Concerned Nigeria, Deji Adeyanju has placed a bet of $10,000 on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) to emerge “third” in the 2023 elections.

“Now waiting for Ben the Obidient to do his part. We don’t display fake cash on social media here. Still ready to bet more because I’m looking for money for my PhD. next year,” Adeyanju wrote on Twitter.

In another post, Adeyanju said, “The Obedient guy, Ben is telling new stories now after agreeing on a call with Egbon Dele MOMODU and giving me the go ahead to pay the money in the Whatsapp group we created for this purpose.

“After displaying fake money online, the guy is suddenly afraid to perform. Obidents, why do you always lie like your mentor? Pay up Ben!”

Man slumps after weekend romp with online lover in Lagos hotel.

A 55-year-old man, Abdulwaheed Lamidi, has lost his life while lodging with his girlfriend at the City International Motel, Council Bus-Stop, in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

According to reports from Punch News, Lamidi and his 32-year-old lover met online and after a series of conversation, they agreed to engage in a romantic relationship.

The relationship was said to have blossomed as the lovers decided to meet physically.

The lady, on Saturday, travelled from her house in another state to meet Lamidi at the motel.

The lovers were said to have spent the night together in a room.

However, things took another turn on Sunday morning.

A source said the lovers were in the room when the girlfriend suddenly ran out to call for help.

He added that when some motel workers rushed into the room, they found Lamidi lying motionless on the ground.

“The girl said the man wanted to enter the toilet but slumped and fell on the ground. A doctor that works in a hospital close to the motel was called and when the doctor got to the room, he certified the man dead.

“The girl said she came to Lagos to meet the man as he promised to marry her; she came with some property and had the intention of moving into his house to be his live-in lover. Instead of going to the man’s house, they went to the hotel and they were in the room when the girl ran out to call for help because the man slumped.

“So, when people rushed into the room, they found him lying unconscious on the ground. The incident happened around 8.40am on Sunday but the girl arrived from another state on Saturday. The girl said she met the man online and that they had been chatting,” the source added.

The corpse was taken to a mortuary, while the woman was arrested for interrogation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect declined to involve her parents in the investigation.

2023 Election: Yoruba Elders, Pro Tinubu Supporters Protest Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket

2023 Election: Yoruba Elders, Pro Tinubu Supporters Protest Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket

No fewer than 5,000 Yoruba Elders majorly members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and supporters of Bola Tinubu on Monday took to the streets of Lagos to protest the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, calling for a Christian to be incorporated.

The pro-Tinubu protesters, under the aegis of the Coalition of APC Stakeholders Network and Southwest Supporters of Tinubu, began their peaceful walk from Shoprite Ikeja to the State House, Alausa.

According to them, the only obstacle between the former Lagos State and the presidency in 2023 is his running mate, Senator Kassim Shettima.

In his address, the group’s President-General, Elder Arokoyo Samuel, described Tinubu as a “political colossus and astute political strategist” who has successfully built an enviable foundation for the party.

“He has also been crucial in the nation’s democracy being an important figure for almost four decades, hence his emergence as APC presidential candidate was perceived as a breadth of fresh air”.

Being known as a lover of peace, tolerance and exclusivity, he said it was, however, surprising that Tinubu opted for a fellow Muslim as the APC’s vice-presidential candidate.

Rejecting the combination, Samuel said “As a multi-religious and multi-ethnic country, any attempt for one religion to dominate the political structure could only widen the gap of mistrust and destroy the delicate sense of tolerance cultivated over the years.

“Hence, the choice of Shettima was not only ill-timed but also a total disregard for the diversity of the country, crushing the bridges built to connect the religious differences and promote ethnic harmonious co-existence”.

The Coalition of APC Stakeholders Network and Southwest Supporters of Tinubu said it is using peaceful protest to urge the party’s presidential candidate to drop Shettima.

“We want the best for the nation and the Muslim-Muslim ticket isn’t. This will set negative precedents for future generations. We must not fail our children.

“In place of Shettima, Tinubu should pick a Christian from the north-central. Doing so will assure the APC of a higher chance of gathering more votes from the North and across the country.

“The north-central dominated by Christians played a vital role in the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections. As popular as PMB is in the North, the only times he succeeded were when he won this zone, despite always dominating the Muslim-dominated North West and North East in his previous three attempts.

“There are a good number of Christian voters in the following northern states Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba, Kaduna, Adamawa, Gombe, Borno, and the FCT, whose votes can be harvested to about 70% if we have a Northern Christian running mate on the ticket.

“Tinubu will write his name in gold should he make this bold decision. He will become the toast of Christians. Imagine the kind of momentum our leader will gather should he get the backing of almost 50 million Christians in Nigeria.

“It is our prayer that Tinubu will look beyond the surface and make this bold decision. We anticipate his timely action”.

Good Leaders Aren’t Appreciated Until They Leave Office, Oshiomhole Praises Jonathan

Good Leaders Aren’t Appreciated Until They Leave Office, Oshiomhole Praises Jonathan

The former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has said that Nigerians don’t appreciate good leaders until they leave office, noting that former President Goodluck Jonathan left enviable legacies behind.

The ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) confessed that he fought former President Jonathan out of office due to their differences in political interests.

He stated this at the one-year memorial lecture in honour of late Captain Hosa Okunbo, in Abuja today.

Oshiomhole said: “You (Jonathan) left legacies even though that I had cause to fight because it is politics. The legacy you have left, there is no successor who can afford to do less.

“But the logic of multi-party democracy is that even an angel can be defeated. You have set a standard that none of your successors can afford to go below.

“Part of your (Jonathan) legacies was when you launched the almajiri school and your thought was that no Nigerian child should be left on the street and also appropriated special funds.

“These ideas are not new but what we lack is the will to transform it to practice. We never know who are our friends until when we are no more.

“No one is appreciated until he or she leaves office,” he said.

UK-based Pastor Adegboyega’s Church (SPAC Nation) Shut Down Over Alleged £1.9m fraud

UK-based pastor Adegboyega’s Church (SPAC Nation) shut down over alleged £1.9m fraud

A United Kingdom High Court has given an order to shut down a popular UK-based church founded by Nigeria-born Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, Salvation Proclaimer Ministries Limited over alleged fraud to the tune of 1.9 million pounds.

Adegboyega, who is popular for his opulence lifestyle is faced with allegations of financial mismanagement and lack of transparency in its operations.

The UK government, in an official statement published on its website Friday, announced that the church, popularly as SPAC Nation, was closed “in the public interest.”

According to the statement, the church failed to properly account for more than £1.87 million of outgoings and operated with a lack of transparency” in the High Court on June 9, 2022 before Judge Burton.

It reads partly, “Salvation Proclaimer Ministries Limited, more commonly known as SPAC Nation, was wound up in the public interest in the High Court on 9 June 2022 before Judge Burton. The Official Receiver has been appointed as liquidator of the company.

“The court heard that SPAC Nation was incorporated in 2012, a charity set up to advance Christianity. Much of its charitable work was based in London, working particularly with vulnerable people, youth, and offenders,” the statement said.

The statement pointed out that SPAC Nation, which was incorporated on 10 September 2012, initially had positive reviews and media attention, adding that the church “was subject to media scrutiny following allegations by former church members that they had been financially exploited by senior church personnel” sometime in 2019.

“Initially, the church group received positive reviews and media attention. But by late 2019 SPAC Nation was subject to media scrutiny following allegations by former church members they had been financially exploited by senior church personnel.

The UK government stated that the Insolvency Service received complaints about SPAC Nation before instigating its own confidential enquiries into the church group’s activities.

But the government said the church failed to comply with statutory requirements and made claims without providing supporting information.

The statement further said, “Investigators interviewed one of the company’s directors, Adedapo Olugbenga Adegboyega, who was also known as Dapo Adegboyega or Pastor Dapo. During interviews, Mr Adegboyega said that the church group had over 2,000 members and 200 ordained ministers and pastors but failed to provide any supporting information.

“Further enquiries found that SPAC Nation either failed to comply or only partially complied with statutory requirements, including providing data to support claimed donations, and accounting records in support of £1.87 million of expenditure.

“The company’s financial statements in the two years to 31 December 2019 set out £610,000 of rent expenditure. However, the company did not have a single base of its own and would hire venues across London to hold services, at significant expense.”

“Salvation Proclaimer Ministries Limited was wound-up after the court concluded the company operated with a lack of transparency, filed suspicious or incorrect accounts, and was insolvent at the time of the hearing.

“It was also recognised that the company provided inconsistent information to the Insolvency Service and Charity Commission, and failed to deliver up adequate accounting records.

“The company remains subject of a statutory inquiry by the Charity Commission, who are examining financial, governance and safeguarding matters at the charity,” the statement added.

The Chief Investigator for the Insolvency Service, Edna Okhiria, was quoted to have said, “While SPAC Nation claimed it had noble intentions to support vulnerable and young people, our enquiries uncovered a different side of the charity. There were clear concerns around how the church group managed its affairs and SPAC Nation failed to properly account for income received from donations and other expenditure.

The statement added, “The court recognized the severity of SPAC Nation’s actions and this sends a strong message that proper records and accounts must be maintained, even if you’re a charity.”

PDP Crises Deepens As Wike Ally Seyi Makinde Rejects Campaign DG Position

PDP Crises Deepens As Wike Ally Seyi Makinde Rejects Campaign DG Position

More troubles for Nigeria’s main opposition party as efforts by PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to manage the raging internal conflict threatening to doom the party’s 2023 challenge suffered yet another significant setback with reports of Oyo Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, rejecting an offer to preside over the party’s Campaign Council as Director General.

Governor Makinde’s snub is believed to be informed by his continued loyalty to his Rivers counterpart, Nyesom Wike, who is on a war path with Mr. Atiku Abubakar over issues related to the conduct of the presidential primary process and the selection of a running mate.

Wike, who lost to Atiku in the primary, has accused the former Vice President and other Governors of the party of malicious collusion against him and general disrespect, in spite of his contributions to keeping the party afloat when Mr. Atiku abandoned it for Dubai after his defeat in the 2019 General Elections.

In his ongoing commissioning of projects, the Rivers Governor has raised eyebrows with his open fraternization with counterparts and leaders of the APC and has warned of a looming defeat for the PDP due to Atiku’s poor management.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State played a lead role during Wike’s challenge for the PDP primary ticket and has repeatedly asserted his persisting support for him. His rejection of the campaign DG position has complicated Atiku’s calculation who had hoped to recruit a chief campaigner with some level of popularity from his main opponent’s South Western region.

Sources add that Atiku’s flip-flopping, including his sudden and unexplained axing of Chief Gbenga Daniel as the DG of his campaign whilst as an aspirant to be replaced by Dr. Bukola Saraki, may have contributed to Governor Makinde’s decision to snub the offer and focus on his second-term bid.

The development has increased the anxiety within the party and frustrated allies of Atiku who fear that internal rebellion may prove the death knell for the party in 2023.

Incredibly: LASPOTECH Students Spend Four Years on OND courses

“The school authorities don’t take our program seriously because they feel they’re doing us a favour by admitting us to the school” students lament.

Some students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH, now Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH, are made to spend four years for National Diploma, ND courses that should normally not exceed three years at most.

The students are now appealing to the state government, owners of the institution, to intervene.

Even though they study as part-time students, they go to school daily to attend lectures and are made to pay fees that keep increasing every session.

Relating her experience, one of the students in the Mass Communication Department (name withheld), said she has spent over three years for her ND program.

I bought the application form in 2019 for N10,000 and was offered admission in the Department of Mass Communication that year. They categorised us as Daily Part-time students and we attend lectures every day.

“Every year, the school fees keep increasing. We started with N68,000 fee in 2019, now we pay over N80,000. That is aside other sundry fees. We buy N500 test cards to write tests and the classes are just too huge in number. We are heading towards the fourth year on campus, when are we going to conclude everything? Many have left since it is like the program is unending,” she said.

Also sharing her experience, another student of the school who pleaded anonymity said: “Initially, the program was supposed to be a three-year program as it was stated in the first admission letter we printed out, but it was later reduced to two years so we had to reprint the admission letter.

I would say the COVID-19 pandemic is part of the reason for the delay, and also the school authorities don’t take our program seriously because they feel they’re doing us a favour by admitting us to the school.

“We were supposed to resume lectures last semester around December/January, would you believe that no lecturer was assigned to us till March?”

On her part, one of the affected students said: “They call our program School of Part-time Studies, Day.

We go to school from Monday to Friday, our time table sometimes runs from 8:00am to 4:00pm so I don’t know why it’s called part-time. I have been running the OND program since 2019.

I thought ND is just two years but when I asked why we’ve spent so much time running just OND, I was told it’s because I am doing part-time studies and it runs from ND 1-3.

Official complaint

Asked if they have tried to find out from the authorities why the OND program was taking too long, one of the students said they did not have the courage to ask the authorities questions as that may affect their results. It’s called a part-time program but we attend classes from Monday to Sunday, just like full-time students.

Another said: “I personally haven’t gone to the authorities to complain so I don’t know what they’re saying about it, students just complain among themselves and some drop and change school.

“I don’t understand why we spend more time than the so-called full-time students because we take same lectures, read same books and take same exams. Everyone is fed up in my department.

“Four years is what is used to obtain a B.Sc. and we’re here wasting time for just OND not even HND

It’s frustrating and many in my school have lost interest in school,” she lamented.

School reacts

Reacting to the development, the Director of Information and Public Relations, Lagos State University of Science & Technology, LASUSTECH, Mr. Lanre Kuye, explained that the students are truly pursuing part-time courses.

“They are in the School of Part-Time Studies. Their programs run for six semesters but all other things being equal, they are not supposed to spend four years in school except they have carry-overs. They should confirm to you that they were not admitted through UTME conducted by JAMB.

“The welfare of our students is top priority that we don’t take for granted. If the school is not shut down because of strike or anything, in two full calendar years, they should have finished their programs. May be those complaining have carry-overs in their courses,” he said.

Illegal admissions

It was gathered that some school management usually use such illegal admissions to generate funds for their schools, as students involved are most of the time categorized as part- time day students or part-time weekend students and are made to pay higher fees than regular students.

The students are also made to spend more semesters in school, with the hope that their admissions would be regularized before they complete their courses.

Asked whether they passed through the right admission process through UTME conducted by JAMB and had no carry-overs, all the students who complained said they indeed wrote the UTME and made good grades but the school requested for only the WAEC results. Moreover, none of them had any carry-over.

“I did write UTME because it was late for me to enter with my UTME so I was referred to the School of Part-Time Studies which is supposed to be six semesters in two years,” one of the students said, while another said: “When I went to the school to register, they only asked me for my WAEC results. I have had no carry-overs. It was after we had spent over two years in the school that we asked them why our own program is different; is an ND program no longer two years or slightly more than two years at most?  It was then they told us that we were doing Part-time Day.

“I don’t understand what that means because we run the same program as those they claim are full-time students. We go to school Monday to Friday. The only part-time program I know runs on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes our timetable runs from 8:00am to 4:00pm so how is that part-time? The only difference is that those ones they call part-time students wrote UTME but for my Set, they only asked for our WAEC results so I don’t understand what is going on.”

Continuing, she said: “I have my UTME, with very good score. I went with everything when I went to register but I was only asked for my WAEC results.

It was after registration when I saw the admission letter that I saw Part-time Day. I asked what that meant because I had expected full-time program.

They told me that if I wanted a full-time program, I should go to the Ikorodu Campus because Isolo Campus had no more space for full-time students and I had already registered. Even at that, how can you be spending four years and counting, running an ND, it’s not proper!”
