“My Husband Abandoned Us and Hid in Toilet During a Robbery Attack” – Nigerian Woman Seeking Divorce Tells Court

“My husband abandoned us and hid in toilet during a robbery attack” – Nigerian woman seeking divorce tells court

A businesswoman identified as Asiata Oladejo told a Mapo Grade A Customary Court, in Ibadan, Oyo state to dissolve her marriage on the grounds that her estranged husband, Abidemi, was unreliable and abandoned her and their children during a robbery attack.

Oladejo submitted her counter argument in the divorce suit filed by her husband.

”My Lord, I am yet to recover from the shock I experienced when a gang of thieves raided our house. He hid in the toilet, leaving me to pant in front of the armed robbers, who terrorized the entire residents of the house.

My lord, when the thieves arrived at around 1am. on that night, my husband was nowhere to be found to defend the children and I.

Unknown to me, he hid in the toilet. He only came out when they had gone. My husband wanted us to continue living in that house,” she said.

Abidemi in his defense said that his wife was ill-tempered.

”She comes to my shop unannounced to torment me. It is true that I hid in the toilet when armed robbers attacked our house. All the attempts made to bring her back home failed, because she said she was unnecessarily scared,” he said

He prayed the court to grant him custody of the three children because he had been a responsible father.

Delivering judgment, the President of the Court, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, granted the order restraining Oladejo from threatening, harassing and interfering in the private life of Abidemi.

Akintayo granted custody of the three children to Oladejo, adding that she was in the best position to cater for them.

“Both petitioner and respondent shall be responsible for the education and other welfare of the children. In addition, Abidemi shall pay a monthly feeding allowance of N20,000 for the children’s upkeep. Both of you must maintain peace and order,” Akintayo held.

She, however, noted that there was no marriage to dissolve between the couple.

ASUU Strike: NANS Demands Education Minister’s Sacking

ASUU Strike: NANS Demands Education Minister’s Sacking

The National Association of Nigerian Students has demanded the sacking of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu over the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

In a statement signed by the NANS president, Sunday Asefon, they said tertiary education had collapsed under Adamu’s watch.

Part of the statement read, “You will recall that President Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on the 19th of July, 2022 gave the Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu two weeks ultimatum to resolve the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities to ensure that students return to classes. You will also recall while this ultimatum subsist ASUU extended the strike by another four weeks.

“It is therefore abundantly clear that the Minister of Education lacks the capacity required to manage such an important ministry as the Ministry of Education. He has shown over the years his lack of capacity, know-how, and adequate understanding of the complexity of educational management. This development calls to question his qualification to be appointed as minister of education in the first place. His total lack of compassion and empathy for the plight of Nigerian students speak volumes.

“Since he became minister ASUU has gone on strike for almost 18 months cumulatively and the entire educational structure of our tertiary education system is in total shamble under his watch. It is therefore imperative to call on the President to immediately relieve him of his duty in the ministry and bring in a more competent hand, educated, experienced, physically fit, and willing enough to begin the process of salvaging the debris of the collapse of education system in Nigeria with the hope of rebuilding it.

“NANS under our leadership will leave no stone unturned to ensure that our demands are acceded to, as we will do all that is required to reawaken the spirit of the Ali-Must-Go to ensure that Adamu-Must Go. The nation and well-meaning Nigerians must prevail on the government to fire the minister as this will serve as the only good radiance to the bad rubbish we have witnessed under his leadership of the ministry.”

2023: Stop Misrepresenting Afenifere, We Won’t Support Peter Obi – Yoruba Youths Tell Pa Ayo Adebanjo

The Pan Yoruba Youth Socio Political Organisation, Yoruba Youth Congress(YYC) has described the statement credited to Pa Ayo Adebanjo, an Afenifere leader, as his personal opinion and not the opinion of the majority of Yoruba leaders.

Pa Adebanjo, had openly endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour party, Mr Peter Obi.

But in a swift reaction through a press Statement made available to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the President of the Yoruba Youth Congress and chairman coalition of southern youth groups, Prince Dapo Adepoju said the endorsement of the labour party presidential candidate is not the stands of the majority of Afenifere leaders but a personal opinion of Mr Adebanjo.“That endorsement is the personal opinion of Pa Adebanjo and not the stand of the majority of the Afenifere leaders. We are not disputing the fact that Pa Adebanjo has the right to support whoever he so wish but that shouldn’t be taken as the stand of the Afenifere.

The Yoruba Youth President maintained that consultations are ongoing and in no distant time the socio political organisation will let Nigerians know who the body will be supporting for the 2023 presidential election, and he clarified it that the person, definitely, will not be The LP candidate.

“As yoruba youths, we want to sincerely advise Baba Adebanjo to stay off political issue or endorsement that can tarnish his image or that of our Afenifere. We also want to remind Adebanjo of his inglorious roles in endorsing failed project of Dr Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

“No serious yoruba group will betray or dump any of their sons and be supporting ‘stranger’ at this critical time that we need to be fully involved in transforming the country after President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime,” Adepoju said.
